How to extract data from debit and credit cards while using OCR?
We believe that you are curious to know how our solution extracts data from cards. Therefore, we included an example of which steps the OCR engine takes to extract data from a credit card (the same steps would be taken if it were a debit card).
Step 1: uploading the card(s) to the OCR API
In the first step, you have to provide the API with a picture or PDF file of a credit card. This can be done from the mobile, or the web app. The credit card OCR API is able to automatically remove the background and correct any rotations.
If you do not have a camera functionality in your app yet, the Klippa Camera SDK might be beneficial to help with card scanning.
Step 2: conversion of image to text
As soon as the credit card OCR solution has received the picture or PDF of the card, it is optimized and converted into a TXT file. All text from the document is then extracted, but not yet structured by the Klippa Parser.
Step 3: parsing to JSON
In the last step, the Klippa Parser takes the unstructured data from step two and converts this into JSON, while using machine learning. From here, the extracted data by our OCR credit card solution can be used according to your own needs.

Klippa can extract data from debit and credit cards from any country. All languages with the Latin, Greek, Arabic or Hebrew alphabet are supported. Cards from common vendors like MasterCard, Visa, American Express are supported, but also less common card brands.
