Comply with E-Invoicing Regulations in Belgium

From January 2026, all B2B transactions in Belgium must be handled via e-invoicing. While B2G transactions were already mandatory since March 2024. Below is what these regulations entail and what is next:

Invoice format

The Belgian government has chosen the PEPPOL BIS (UBL format) as the standard for receiving e-invoices.

Invoice Archiving

Based on the Belgian laws, it’s a must to keep your e-invoices archived for up to 7 years.

Future E-Reporting

Starting in 2028, Belgium will transition to a real time reporting system where invoice data is shared automatically with tax authorities. This continuous transaction control will eventually replace manual reports like the annual customer listing.

Send & Receive E-invoices in Belgium

Following the new regulations, the issuing and receiving of e-invoices in Belgium can be done manually using the Mercurius portal, or the process can be automated and handled in bulk through a software provider with a Peppol Access Point.
